F&M Export Ban Lifted

THE REMOVAL of the final restrictions on livestock movement, which were imposed in the wake of the Foot and Mouth outbreak in Surrey, took place at noon on Saturday 8 September after DEFRA announced the successful completion of all testing within the Foot and Mouth Disease Surveillance Zone in Surrey.

Welcoming this, MSP John Swinney said: “My constituency covers a vast rural area and I know that those in Perthshire who work in the livestock industry will be delighted at the lifting of restrictions.

“The Scottish Government has acted swiftly throughout the period following the Foot and Mouth outbreak to ensure the interests of the agricultural industry are heeded.

“Perthshire has a very important tradition of agricultural industry which is reflected in the fine quality of goods which the area still produces. It is welcome news that the damage of the Foot and Mouth outbreak has been minimised due to the sharp and effective action of the authorities concerned.

“I have no doubt Perthshire will continue to be recognised worldwide as a centre for excellent rural produce.”
