Go Green in a Fortnight

A Pocket Green Guide for Scotland, launched 31 August, provides the fast track to a greener lifestyle for you and your family with a series of easy-to-follow, bite-sized tips to instantly reduce your consumption and Ecological Footprint. In Scotland we are using up the world’s resources too quickly, and climate change is one of the symptoms of the way we are living beyond the planet’s means. If everyone in the world consumed natural resources and generated carbon dioxide (CO2) at the rate we do in Scotland, we’d need three planets to support us.
But we can all do our bit to conserve resources and combat climate change. If we all consume more wisely, save energy and cut down on our waste, we can reduce our impact and tread more lightly on the Earth.

Action
The Pocket Green Guide for Scotland shows us how to start making a difference today, featuring a 14-day plan that sets readers on a path of doing their bit to conserve the planet and combat climate change. What’s more, it’s available for free. The booklet can be downloaded as a PDF, and there are also copies available for organisations, business, charities and councils to distribute.
“People in Scotland increasingly recognise that the everyday choices they make, from buying their food to choosing where to go on holiday, can impact the environment on a global scale causing climate change, species loss and destruction of the world’s forests. This guide shows consumers how they can reduce their Ecological Footprint and help move Scotland towards living within the capacity of our planet,” said Dr Richard Dixon, Director of WWF Scotland.
The Guide shows you how to Go Green in a Fortnight - here’s what to do in the first week:
Day 1: Turn off the tap when you clean your teeth
Day 2: Bin the plastic bag - take your own shopping with you
Day 3: Turn your heating down by one degree
Day 4: Boil less water - only what you need
Day 5: Cover pans when cooking
Day 6: Ditch the stand-by button - switch off instead
Day 7: Buy local, seasonal food

Database
The Green Guide is about changing our patterns of consumption and seeking out greener, more natural and ethical alternatives to every conceivable type of product and service. The Green Guide database is the most comprehensive directory of eco-friendly goods, services, contacts and organisations available in the UK. With over 12,000 entries it is the best source for everything organic, natural, fairly-traded and green, containing all the information you need for planet-friendly shopping and one planet living. More than 9,000 of these entries are available in the Online Directory. All listings are included free of charge.
The Guide is a collaboration between WWF Scotland and Markham Publishing, with additional support from the Scottish Executive. The PDF of the Pocket Green Guide for Scotland is free to download from www.wwfscotland.org.uk and www.greenguide.co.uk.
Print copies are available free of charge for organisations, businesses, charities, schools and local councils to distribute. To request copies, please email editor@greenguide.co.uk.
