Set Aside Derogation Welcomed
The Scottish Government’s decision to grant a derogation to allow farmers to use set-aside land to graze livestock has been welcomed by MSP John Swinney
Usually prevented under EU legislation between 15 January and 31 August, the constant period of wet weather this year has led to provisions being implemented by the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Richard Lochhead MSP to allow it to take place.
Speaking of the news the MSP said:“I welcome the move by the new Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs to put in place measures which will allow livestock to graze on land which is set aside. |

Both Angus and Perthshire have a strong tradition of farming and it will be a relief to farmers in my constituency that they are able to maximise the use of their land in the present circumstances.
“The weather conditions have been fairly unpredictable in the last few years and it is vital that the authorities act to ensure farmers livelihoods are not put at risk unnecessarily. I am very pleased that in this case the Scottish Government has done exactly that.”
