Response to 'Lie' Article

Bob Arthy’s article on ‘the Great Global Warming Swindle’ (see: The Convenient Lie) is so full of falsehoods that it has to be challenged and ‘debunked’ for the nonsense that it is.
According to Bob, man-made climate change is nothing more than a conspiracy by politicians and others to create a global warming industry. But as renowned environmentalist George Monbiot pointed out “No one explains why governments should seek to amplify their own failures”. He adds “In the wacky world of the climate conspiracists no explanations are required. The world’s most conservative scientific body (IPCC) has somehow been transformed into a conspiracy of screaming demagogues”.

Does Bob truly think that the vast majority of scientists studying global warming have misinterpreted or made up their findings? Even George Bush acknowledges man-made global warming.

Desperate Denial
What scientific expertise does Bob have to ‘debunk’ their conclusions that global warming is the result of human activity and the burning of fossil fuels in particular? To rely on one very dubious programme for evidence is not scientific, but a desperate act of denial.
Here are a few facts about Martin Durkin who made Channel 4’s film ‘The Great Global Warming Swindle’. The Independent Television Commission upheld complaints against Mr Durkin for a previous programme he made, that he had “distorted” people’s views by “selective editing” and that he “misled them as to the purpose and content of the programmes when they agreed to take part”.
Professor Carl Wunsch, who spoke on the Great Global Warming Swindle also complained that his views on climate change had been misrepresented by Mr Durkin.
Tampering with evidence is nothing new for those who deny human induced global warming. At hearings in the US Congress recently, Philip Cooney, a former White House aide who had previously worked at the American Petroleum Institute, admitted he had made hundreds of changes to government reports about climate change on behalf of the Bush administration. Though not a scientist he had struck out evidence that glaciers were retreating and inserted phrases that there was serious scientific doubt about global warming.
If Bob would like more information on who the real deniers are I would be happy to provide him with copious amounts of real evidence.
